The rail is the same on every page. Only the marks move.
Every page in the book, in order — what the marks do across the run
Numbered in the order the films are shown — day, then screening, then down the programme
Numbered A to Z by title, as the workbook does it now

The rail replaces the page number. Its scale never changes, so a mark's height is the same fact on every page: when in the festival that film is shown. Flick the book and the marks fall. A page's films come out as one solid block, and anything sitting above that block is a film this programme shares with an earlier one — so a repeat shows itself without being labelled. Numbered A to Z instead, the same pages give scatter, which is a page number with extra steps.
