The sans behind it The index line

Every festival in the field is set in a grotesque, which makes a serif the loudest quiet move available. This is the mark set in the Foundry Wilson revival — the types Alexander Wilson cut in Glasgow from 1748 — using the real outlines rather than a stand-in. Against the sans at the same cap height you can see what it costs and what it buys: the serif runs wider, sets quieter, and carries the city in the letterforms instead of in a symbol. The sans stays for everything the mark is not.
